The Golden Globe nominations are out! In case you forgot The Golden Globe honors TV and movies. And let’s just say this is the most star-studded Golden Globes we’ve seen in…like ever. You want to know why? TV is the movie. This means more A-list stars are willing to do TV now. So instead of the movies category being flooded with A-listers, we now have a well-known stars on both ballads and I, for one and living for it!

And to be honest, I am not as familiar with the movies that are nominated but I’ve seen a fairly large chunk of the television shows. I’m not saying movies are dead but television is doing big things.

Check out the nominees below along with my predictions.

MOVIES

Best Motion Picture – Drama

“1917”

“The Irishman”

“Joker”

“Marriage Story”

“The Two Popes”

Shoutout to Netflix for getting 3 nominations here. “Marriage Story”, “The Two Popes” and “The Irishman”. Of the 3 I’ve only seen one so I should probably get on that. And there’s literally no excuse since it’s on Netflix all I have to do is press a button to watch. Anyways, maybe this weekend. But so far, “Joker” has been my favorite movie of the year so I’m going with it for this category.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama

Cynthia Erivo, “Harriet”

Scarlett Johansson, “Marriage Story”

Saoirse Ronan, “Little Women”

Charlize Theron, “Bombshell”

Renée Zellweger, “Judy”

I haven’t actually seen “Harriet” but I’ve heard amazing things. Plus I just listened to a podcast where Cynthia Erivo narrated this gripping story. She was so good. So, I pick “Harriet”.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama

Christian Bale, “Ford V Ferrari”

Antonio Banderas, “Pain And Glory”

Adam Driver, “Marriage Story”

Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker”

Jonathan Pryce, “The Two Popes”

This is actually really hard because I’ve seen 3 of these movies and really liked all of them. I’m picking Adam Driver because I saw him get super emotional and it seemed like he dug deep for his role in “Marriage Story”.

Best Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy

“Dolemite Is My Name”

“Jojo Rabbit”

“Knives Out”

“Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood”

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Kathy Bates, “Richard Jewell”

Annette Bening, “The Report”

Laura Dern, “Marriage Story”

Jennifer Lopez, “Hustlers”

Margot Robbie, “Bombshell”

Apparently Jennifer Lopez hasn’t been nominated for a Golden Globe since 1998 when you guessed it… she played Selena. I mean it makes sense, she hasn’t done any real award show worthy work since then but I’m excited for her and I hope she wins!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Tom Hanks, “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood”

Anthony Hopkins, “The Two Popes”

Al Pacino, “The Irishman”

Joe Pesci, “The Irishman”

Brad Pitt, “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood”

Someone, please explain how Tom Hanks got a Supporting Actor nom in a movie where he plays the title character. Like, the movie is about Mr. Rogers and he plays Mr. Rogers but he got a supporting actor nom, like what? I’m confused.

Best Director – Motion Picture

Best Director – Motion Picture

Bong Joon Ho, “Parasite”

Sam Mendes, “1917”

Todd Phillips, “Joker”

Martin Scorsese, “The Irishman”

Quentin Tarantino, “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood”

No surprise “The Irishman” has 17 nominations. I’ve heard great things but haven’t actually seen it. It is streaming on Netflix which is the most nominated network this year. Soon come. But I’m picking “Joker” again for now.

Best Screenplay – Motion Picture

Noah Baumbach, “Marriage Story”

Bong Joon Ho, Han Jin Won, “Parasite”

Anthony McCarten, “The Two Popes”

Quentin Tarantino, “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood”

Steven Zaillian, “The Irishman”

Have you seen “Marriage Story a lot on this list? Well that’s because it’s the most nominated film at the 2020 Golden Globes.

Best Original Score – Motion Picture

Alexandre Desplat, “Little Women”

Hildur Guönadóttir, “Joker”

Randy Newman, “Marriage Story”

Thomas Newman, “1917”

Daniel Pemberton, “Motherless Brooklyn”

Best Original Song – Motion Picture

“Beautiful Ghosts” – Cats

“I’m Gonna Love Me Again” – Rocketman

“Into The Unknown” – Frozen

“Spirit” – The Lion King

“Stand Up” – Harriet

I think it’s hilarious that Taylor (she’s nominated for Cats) and Beyonce (nominated for Lion King) are in the same category again. This is giving me 2009 VMA vibes. I really think it’s a battle between the two of them so we shall see.

Best Television Series – Drama

“Big Little Lies”

“The Crown”

“Killing Eve”

“The Morning Show”

“Succession”

OMG this is hard. I realized now that I watch way more TV than movies because I’ve seen all of these lol. All of these (except Killing Eve) are on non-traditional networks. Shoutout to HBO (“Big Little Lies” and “Succession”), Netflix (“The Crown”), and Apple TV + (“The Morning Show”). I’m unsure of who to choose, honestly, all of these shows are phenomenal. I guess I’ll go with “The Morning Show” because I feel like the Golden Globes are a popularity contest and well, Jennifer Aniston is the most popular kid at school.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama

Jennifer Aniston, “The Morning Show”

Olivia Colman, “The Crown”

Jodie Comer, “Killing Eve”

Nicole Kidman, “Big Little Lies”

Reese Witherspoon, “The Morning Show”

I think this is a race between Reese and Jennifer. Of course, I love all the other nominationees but let’s be real.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama

Brian Cox, “Succession”

Kit Harington, “Game Of Thrones”

Rami Malek, “Mr. Robot”

Tobias Menzies, “The Crown”

Billy Porter, “Pose”

I love Billy Porter and I think he’ll take this home but can I point out that this Kit Harrington’s nomination in this category is the only nod to Game of Thrones’ final season. It seems like a snub to me.

Best Television Series – Musical Or Comedy

“Barry”

“Fleabag”

“The Kominsky Method”

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

“The Politician”

Mrs. Maisel is my favorite. I know Fleabag will probably win based on track record at the Emmys but I haven’t seen it so I’m sticking with Maisel.

Rachel Brosnahan, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

Kirsten Dunst, “On Becoming A God In Central Florida”
