Schitt’s Creek premiered it’s sixth and final season on Pop TV. As much as it was sad to know this was the last season opener I could watch from the series, it was also so nice to see the direction my favorite TV characters are going in as we head towards the series finale.
When I first started watching Schitt’s Creek a couple of months ago on Netflix, I had heard of the show but didn’t really know what it was about or that I would literally fall in love with these characters crafted so divinely by the co-creators and father/son duo, Dan and Eugene Levy.
The Roses have captivated my heart and I’m so glad that I got a chance to binge the show prior to the premiere of the sixth and final season.
The episode opens with Alexis trying to stuff her entire life into one tiny suitcase for her trip to the Galapagos. David and his fiance look on in laughter as Alexis and David do some typical hilarious banter. Basically the convo goes like this: Alexis is excited to get out of town and upset that David and Patrick didn’t invite her to their wedding venue hunt. We also find Moira right where we left her. Last we heard, The Crows movie was canceled and so in true Moira fashion, we find her balled up in a closet, crying.
Finally, Alexis and Stevie (aka Emily Hampshire) accompany Patrick and David to the wedding venue appointment. Of course, David has found the most beautiful place to potentially get married. He says and I quote, this is “the only venue for miles that doesn’t look like a scene from a missing person’s docuseries”. Upon walking the grounds, everyone falls in love with the venue and they go inside to get pricing only to find out the gold, silver and bronze packages are way out of their price range. To which David quips, “is there a package below the bronze package? Perhaps a copper package?” But luckily they are presented with a cheaper option. The only catch is that it’s in a month and Alexis will be long gone in the Galapagos Islands by then.
Eventually Stevie helps Alexis figure out that she misread her flight and she actually leaves in another month. What follows is a hilarious scene where Alexis tries to convince David that she wants to selflessly move her trip back so he can get married at this beautiful venue. The back and forth between these two so beautifully showcases their wonderful comedic timing. Scenes like this remind me why these two are the perfect duo which is honestly why I’m so sad this show is ending.
In Johnny and Moira news, Moira has a near-death experience during a smoke emergency started by the mayor Rolan. When the mayor comes into the room to rescue her, the only thing Moira is concerned with is her wigs. She soon tells Johnny that she is retiring. “I all but perished for an unrequited love for an industry that has burned me over and over again,” Next, Johnny and Moira head to go skinny dipping to celebrate her decision to retire, she leaves him up Schitt’s Creek naked and afraid while she is on the phone with her agent (so much for retirement). When we find them together again, their is a third party. An off-duty police officer has escorted Johnny back to Moira and tells her that he found him without clothes in the Creek. Almost busted for indecent exposure, the cop lets him go and Moira announces that The Crows movie is back on. Moira tries to re-up the skinnydipping adventure once the cop leaves but Johnny is disappointed and the two head home.
Thee last moment from the episode that deserves noting has to be when Patrick suggests to David they get married ab
This episode was fun of everything we know and love about the show and I can’t wait to see what’s to come. I missed seeing series regulars like Twyla and Jocelyn but maybe they will be back in later episodes. I sure hope we get more scenes with all of the Roses together since this episode split them into twos a majority of the time.
After Stevie mentioned that she was jealous of Alexis’ trip, it got me thinking that I hope she gets out of Schitt’s Creek. I want her to have a happily ever after.
What do you guys think about the final season’s premiere? Let me know in the comments.
