If you’ve watched the most recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy, you know the entire show has shifted with the exit of one of the show’s original characters Alex Karev. Yes, I know heartbreaking. Because when I first heard Justin Chambers was leaving the show and his last episode had aired weeks before, I was shook. I just never imagined him leaving, especially without a heads up.

And that’s exactly how the characters on the show felt. Alex hasn’t been on the show in a few weeks and hasn’t made any contact with his wife or any of the other doctors at Grey Slone. Except…

drumroll, please…

Former doctor at the hospital, Izzy Stevens. Yeah, so Karev writes letters to his wife Jo, Miranda Bailey, Meredith Grey and Richard Weber. In the letters we learn he reached out to Izzy during Meredith’s trial to get her to write a letter on her behalf. Their conversation picked up right where they left off and he learns that Izzy used those embryos she made with Alex back when she had cancer and had twins, a boy and a girl.

So, Grey’s had to go way into the archives to make this exit make sense without killing him off the show completely. I like that they left the door open for him to return, just like with Christina but IDK guys, it was a lot to digest.

Because, if this the ending we’re sticking with…Alex leaves Jo for Izzy and 2 kids he never knew he had well, I have a problem with this. It’s not a good enough reason for him to leave the show altogether. If it was, they would have had McDreamy run off into the sunset with Addison.

I totally remember the feeling when Katherine Heigl left the show. It was heartbreaking and I felt so bad for Alex at that time. But the thing is he MOVED ON with Jo. Of course, I was skeptical of their relationship at first but the show did such a good job at making us fall in love with Alex and Jo that him leaving her almost hurts more than when Izzy left the show.

So much that I’ve got some suggestions for Alex (aka the Grey’s writing room) to maybe remedy this whole situation. Because to me, there are some holes. They really should have consulted me before making any decisions. I have great ideas.

The Sister Wife Option

So, if Alex truly loves both women as much as he says he does then maybe they could have had a sister wife situation. Why not come back to Seattle and live with Izzy, his kids and Jo under the same roof?

The Co-Parent Option

I totally get that Alex wants to be a hands-on parent, but if he really loved Jo, I feel like he could still be in his kids’ life and co-parent with Izzy while still living in Seattle with Jo. The kids could come to see him on the weekends, summers and lots of Facetime.

The Part-Time Option

If Alex loves Jo and wants to be with her. He could get a place in the middle of nowhere, wherever Izzy lives now and then split his time between homes.

But alas, the writers have chosen to tell us that Alex is also in love with Izzy and wants to be with her over Jo because while he loves Jo, Izzy has his kids and Jo would never have kids with him. But like, never say never right? What if he found out Jo was pregnant, then what? It just doesn’t make sense and I’m upset this is the way he’s leaving. I loved Izzy and Alex but Alex and Jo are such a perfect fit it’s ridiculous.

What do you guys think about my options? Can you think of any alternate endings that would have been better than what we got?
