Sherlock Holmes has been the subject of countless films, TV shows, novels, and franchises in various other mediums. Most recently Robert Downey Jr. himself played the larger than life character in the Guy Ritchie films. But now there’s a new movie that promises a different take on another Holmes altogether. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, the Enola Holmes teaser trailer announces the movie’s release date in a creative and fun way.

The Enola Holmes Teaser Trailer Makes It Clear Who The Movie Is About

Set in the same Sherlock Holmes universe, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Enola Holmes is about Sherlock’s younger sister. The Enola Holmes character was part of a book series created by author Nancy Springer. With the same gumption and affinity for mysteries as her more famous brother, Enola sets off on her own adventures in a new movie on Netflix. The Stranger Things star is honestly the perfect choice to play the charismatic, clever, and impressive character that Enola promises to be.

The Enola Holmes teaser trailer is less a trailer, and more a flurry of one-liners leading up to the reveal of the titular character. The teaser also has Henry Cavill as Sherlock himself, trying very hard to steal focus with his new Mr. Darcy-esque haircut. Then there’s also the other Holmes brother Mycroft played by Sam Clafin, along with Helena Bonham Carter and a plethora of others. All taking the name of the main character, Enola. The teaser ends with Enola finally coming on screen and basically declaring herself in the manner that could be the British equivalent of “it me!”. It’s a fun action-packed teaser that sets the tone for what to expect from the movie. And thank God for that!

Millie Bobby Brown Thankfully Not Sexualized In Enola Holmes

After her rapid climb to success with Netflix’s Stranger Things, the then 12-year old Brown was catapulted to fame. During that time, the same concerns of a child star becoming too mature too fast applied to her as well. She appeared at industry events and premieres, glammed up well beyond her years. So concerns regarding her supposed maturity and adult depiction by the media sparked many online conversations. Let’s not even get into the whole Drake situation of him texting her about boys.

So I’m glad to see that in her next big thing post-Stranger Things, Brown’s character has some of the childish charm and exuberance of the actor herself in a movie like this. The adult Sherlock Holmes is always an eccentric and difficult man who dabbles with recreational drug use. A similar PG version of that character through his younger sister can be just as mischievous, but without the mature subject matter. And from the Enola Holmes teaser trailer, the movie certainly seems to be in that spirit.

Enola Holmes releases on Netflix on September 23.
