- Kristen Stewart is set to play Princess Diana in a new Independent film directed by Larraín.
- Production is expected to begin early 2021.
- Kristen’s previous work in the Twilight franchise work will help her in this role.
- Her previous Independent films like, Seberg, have shown a different side to the actress.
We all know Kristen Stewart. She was Bella in Twilight. And while this role brought her so much notoriety, it also brought her the most criticism. Since the Twilight franchise, her acting ability has been called into question countless times. And while, yes, Kristen can have this emotionless expression at times, I would actually say her acting chops have improved tremendously in the past few years.
I actually think her time in the Twilight franchise will help her in this role. Much like Diana, she has firsthand experience of living in a fishbowl with media hounding you, camping outside your home, and exposing every facet of your life. I think Kristen Stewart was actually born to play this role.
The movie will follow 3 days in the life of Diana after she realizes that she does not want to life her current lifestyle. But it will show her immense love for Prince William and Prince Harry.
You already know how I feel, what are your thoughts on this casting choice?
If you’ve not seen her most recent movies, they are generally Independent films (aside from Charlie’s Angels) that include Seberg. Not gonna lie, this was the first Kristen Stewart movie I’ve watched since Twilight (I didn’t even see Charlie’s Angels lol) and I have to say she was excellent. In the movie, she plays a French new wave actress, Jean Seberg in the 1960s. She became the target of the FBI due to her support of the civil rights movement and her romantic involvement with a black panther activist, Hakim Jamal.
And after watching this and my combined knowledge of her previous role as Joan Jett, I think Kristen Stewart is a character actor. I think she’s really good at embodying real people that either exist or have existed and portraying that on camera.
The movie’s director, Larrain agrees saying:
“I’ve seen movies from Kristen that are so diverse it’s incredible, showing different layers and her diversity and strength as an actress,” he said. “We’re very happy to have her, she’s very committed. As a filmmaker, when you have someone who can hold such a weight, dramatic and narrative weight just with her eyes, then you have the strong lead who can deliver what we are looking for.”
