Death On The Nile is one of the newest movies from the re-branded 20th Century Studios after Disney acquired Fox. So it’s surprising to see a movie about grisly murder and mystery from a Disney-owned studio. But this could be a sign of great things to come if they’re separating content to their other brands. The Death on the Nile trailer introduces a star-studded affair, with a foul crime at the heart of it all. Sorry, started channeling an Agatha Christie novel narrator there for a second.
Written by Agatha Christie, a world-renowned author, the Death on the Nile story comes from one of her detective fiction novels. Christie’s novels are world famous for their elements of mystery and suspense. As a result, they are actually a sort of template for the typical murder-mystery movie genre, featured in movies like Knives Out. Her novels are about the cases of Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, played by Kenneth Brannagh. The new movie acts as a sort of sequel to another novel adaptation, Murder On The Orient Express from 2017.
Death On The Nile Trailer Is All Style With Substance To Come
The Death on the Nile trailer, similar to its predecessor, is chockfull of stars and isn’t ashamed to show it. The majority of the trailer is all about introducing us to these many stars and their glorious period-setting costumes and hair-dos, building up for the nasty business of murder that is to follow. Gal Gadot leads the all-star cast with Armie Hammer and Brannagh who is the director as well. The rest of the cast features known faces like Rose Leslie (Game Of Thrones), Annette Bening, and Leticia Wright (Black Panther).
The newcomers are one of the many Margot Robbie clones, Emma Mackey. Actually, that’s unfair, Mackey is an amazing new talent. She’s most notably in Netflix’s Sex Education where she played a complicated high school student trying to find a place to fit into society’s expectations of her. So I’m very excited to see her make the jump into a big-budget Hollywood movie. The trailer definitely looks intriguing with its lavishly decorated sets, and the cast itself is too incredible to ignore. I might be a little worried about the gimmick of the train setting from the previous movie changing to a massive cruise-liner, but that’s just being nit-picky.
Death on the Nile releases in theatres on October 23, 2020.
