It’s like I blinked, and suddenly, the days of affordable $25 pedicures vanished into thin air. Now, I’m shelling out a hefty $70 minimum for a pedicure at the nail salon, and it’s got me scratching my head.

The service menus have evolved into these intricate lists. I mean, adding gel? That’s another $17, and the cheapest pedicure they have is a whopping $68. But wait, they’ve got a “happy hour” deal, so that knocks it down to $45. Add the gel, and bam! I’m still looking at $62 for a pedicure on the low end.

I get that it’s not just about polish anymore; it’s the expertise, the technique, the mastery of intricate nail art. But honestly, the cost has spiraled out of control. Don’t let me start talking about getting my nails done. If they have to soak off the old nails — $10, add a design — $5 a nail, french tips — $15, and bam, next thing I know, I’m dropping $132, tip included.

And speaking of tips, am I supposed to tip 20% to 25% on these sky-high bills? My mom always tipped five bucks per person back in the day when it was all reasonably priced, but now, that’s a fraction of the total bill. It’s like the prices skyrocketed overnight, and suddenly I’m supposed to dole out tips like I’m throwing confetti.

I’m all for quality work, but when did a trip to the nail salon start feeling like a luxury vacation? Rant over.

  1. Lol! Cute and relatable rant. What happened? The same thing that happened to $25 Wash and Style hairstyles, non-existent! I agree, I get it, the technique, supplies and let’s be honest, the economy and times just has changed but the rise in some of these beauty prices with the lack of customer service is not adding up. *Ok, my rant over

    1. You are so right! I used to get my hair washed, blow dried and straightened for $25. I understand inflation but it’s downright robbery at this point because why are they charging for the shape of the nail too. Ridiculous smh.
