I know right. Shocking. After all of the highs and lows, this franchise has seen, we’ve actually never witnessed a couple get married and then get divorced. Sure, less than 10 percent of the engaged couples actually make it down the aisle but it seems like when they do, it sticks. So, the news of Bachelor in Paradise alums Chris Randone and Krystal Nielson’s split has got us shook to the core. Especially since the BIP success rate is so high. I mean in 6 seasons, we’ve had Jade and Tanner, Karly and Evan, Ashley and Jared + a ton of other very stable relationships like Dylan and Hannah, Kevin and Astrid and… I’d list the rest but enough with the commas, geez.
Paradise just feels like the place Bachelor Nation goes to find love.
And while we’ve had Bachelor breakups that have rocked us a little (i.e. Kaitlyn and Shawn), there have been so many broken engagements, that it’s almost expected. The Bachelor is like that one friend who traveled abroad in high school because this franchise has seen A LOT. But one thing we’ve never seen is divorce so this is shocking to those that follow the franchise.
The former couple said in a joint statement released to Bachelor Nation on Valentine’s Day of all days, “It hurts to announce that at this moment, we have mutually decided to separate. Never did we imagine this scenario but we’ve come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves.”
“We are best friends that love and care for each other so deeply. We’ve appreciated everyone’s love and support so far throughout our journey and we just ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate through this.”
The former couple met on Bachelor in Paradise season 5 and even had a televised wedding on Bachelor in Paradise season 6.
At the time, Krystal spoke about the relationship saying, “We are so excited to start this new chapter of our lives together. We will have each other’s backs forever.”
