Well, it turns out life ain’t so simple for Paris Hilton.

In the trailer for her upcoming documentary, This Is Paris, the 39-year-old socialite turned DJ proclaims, “No one knows who I really am.”

Now, if you’re anything like me and grew up stanning her on The Simple Life, then this revelation probs left you shooketh. Like, it’s all a lie? The perfectly blond gazelle who put Juicy Couture (and Kim K) on the map while chanting “That’s hot” was a…lie? Apparently so.

She Has Been Playing a Character

“I feel like the whole world thinks they know me…I’m so used to playing a character that it’s hard for me to be normal,” she says.

When I tell y’all my mouth was on the floor… Like, Ms. Paris is an icon. She’s built a brand around her personality and style. So for her to reveal that that’s not who she really is, is TEA.

So, why did she feel the need to create and uphold this persona for so many years? Great question, girl! She touches on it a bit in the trailer, revealing, “Something happened in my childhood that I haven’t talked about with anyone.” Her sister, Nicky, adds to this, admitting, “I just heard screaming bloody murder.”

Paris then responds, “But I couldn’t tell you guys, because every time I tried, I would get punished by them…The only thing that saved my sanity was thinking about who I wanted to become when I got out of there. I just created this brand, and this persona, and this character, and I’ve been stuck with her ever since.”

I just want to know who “them” is. And, what did they do to our girl? If you could point them in my direction and let them know I just want to talk, that’d be greatly appreciated.

In all Seriousness, Paris is the OG Influencer

Without her, a lot of these girls we see on IG would be leading regular ass lives and working regular ass jobs. It’s really unfortunate that she’s had to hide this serious childhood trauma while leading such a public life. However, this trailer seems to be a precursor to her liberation from that trauma. Paris herself has even said that filming the doc was “almost therapeutic.”

I’m glad to hear it was a cathartic experience for her, but I’m over here spiraling. Nevertheless, I’m excited to meet the real Paris. If you share my excitement, be sure to tune in to YouTube’s premiere of “This Is Paris” on September 14.
