Pieces Of Her on Netflix is the latest thrill rollercoaster from the streamer, and it’s a shocking thrill-a-minute from start to finish. At first glance, it seems like your typical mother-daughter drama, but this mini-series swiftly gears up into a heart-racing mystery thriller. With a gripping storyline and top-notch performances, it’s an easy binge-watch. Toni Collette’s latest venture not only delves into past trauma but serves it up in a captivating, binge-worthy package. This show slices and dices drama with a twist you won’t want to miss!

Pieces Of Her Mini-Series Comes From A Novel

The book adaptation came from by Karin Slaughter who, on top of having the best last name of any novelist, also creates a truly riveting story. Published in 2018, the novel has not yet had the time to blossom into a classic. However, it’s easy to see why Netflix commissioned the Pieces Of Her miniseries, given just how interesting the story is. It’s clear that the roles are author-backed, and the story comes from a novel. The pacing and slow burn of certain elements feel very much like Reacher, also based on a novel series.

Pieces Of Her on Netflix opens with Andy (Bella Heathcote) a less than ambitious young woman living with her estranged mother. While on the surface the two seemingly have a great relationship, the usual mother-daughter drama exists. During lunch at a local diner, all hell breaks loose. When a mass shooting breaks out in front of them, Andy’s mother Laura (Toni Collette) jumps into action and saves the day. Now, she didn’t do a one-handed cartwheel and take down the bad guy as you might suspect. But the approach was more methodical and very smooth. Nonetheless, the reaction from all present, including us as the audience, is startling. This kickstarts the rest of the story of this new series with Toni Collette, which is apropos given it was her action in the first place.

A Crafty Thriller With So Much Brewing Underneath It All

Pieces Of Her is a slow burn, but one that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. The mystery deepens when Andy has to escape from her mediocre due to her mom’s past coming back for them. I mean, it’s a crazy ride as Andy finds out all sorts of things about her mom. Every kid feels like their parents were different people when seeing old college pics with the perm or bell bottoms. In the case of Andy, it’s a little—no, a lot worse than that!

The mini-series is a great little thriller that starts high, slows down a little in the middle, but ends on a high note.

Pieces Of Her is now streaming on Netflix.
